Creative day 15 - Revised and Relieved

Finally its finished and delivered. The insert is filled with linseed and lavender oil in a silk skin. This can be microwaved or cooled in the freezer. The pockets worked really well and spreads out evenly over your eyes. I worried about sealing the outer pocket, but I made it like a pillowcase which works really well and finally, I put velvet elastic - which is meant as a trim but I had it in the cupboard, to fix it round your head. It fits well and looks good - and is on its way to Japan.

Creative Challenge - Day 14

Throughout this month we have been talking about colours and seeing art in the everyday. This week in our vegie box delivery was a red cabbage. As we were having a BBQ, it became an artistic coleslaw. Alexander helped cut and grate the ingredients, and loved the patterns from the cabbage. I think this picture may become the basis of something? I loved the ways the colours jarred against each other - which I got to see up close when I was picking out each one of the bottle of peppercorns that spilt into our finished salad!

Creative Challenge- Day 13

Oh- the spring sunshine just draws you outside- pardon the pun. Alexander did some great work at our quarterly kinder working bee, and the littler boys got their artistic fix from a little water painting out on our deck.

Why is it that kids love textas so much? We have these giant ones - and while it always starts nicely, they always end up sucking on them.

Creative Challenge - Does sand count?

Creative play in the park was our artistic focus today. I met with Nay from Two Little Buttons and the kids had a ball. They made beautiful sand cakes or muffins with cherries on top. It was such a lovely day- one where the kids just run off and actually play (as opposed to fight) and you can just enjoy the moment.

Waterpainting-

Creative Challenge - Day 8 WIP

These have been a work in progress for some time now and I finally cut out the stencil to paint them.

I had been planning to fill them with linseed to make them into a heat pack, but after a microwave accident involving said seeds and a now critical tupperware container - I am a bit off that idea. I stumbled onto this at Skip to my Lou which has made me rethink my design.

This shows the progression so far - the first has no filling, the second has rice filling (as a cold eye pack) but I don't like the eyes or the highlights. The third is getting there but there are a couple of refinements I want to make. Ultimately I would like it to go in the microwave so I will have to go back to the linseeds, but you may have seen the Amy Butler eyemasks on Skip to My Lou, and they had a inner case that came out. I am thinking along this line as the satin gets dirty, and then I can do the highlights from crystals. The other thing I may do is put sleeping eyes on the reverse side - not sure yet. Finally, they do look a little weird on, they are meant to be Manga eyes, which are always oversized but they may need eyebrows to reference them, so there may be an increase in size of the mask. Finally I need to put the filling into pockets - like a doona - otherwise they have a tendance to pool in some areas, leaving no filling in the other. But at least we have something to show so I am making headway!
