Wedding Part 1 - People

I love a good wedding- especially the dress. Unfortunately I don't have a fabulous picture of it - because while we were at the beautiful Point Nepean, the weather was not so beautiful. The ceremony was planned for outside, but it looked like the bride was to make her entrance on a white slip and slide (there was muddy plastic over the carpet) We moved inside the clear marquee for a beautiful ceremony accompanied by the pitter of constant rain. Here is our lovely bride and groom. (He is in a black suit with white tie) She is in an exquisite ivory/cream gown. It is Christian Lacriox embossed brocade fabric with the brocade detail picked out with beading over the bust.
The bridesmaides had beautiful navy stretch satin dresses with lovely subtle frill detail to one side of the neckline and also at the rear hem. They were cocktail length as the dresscode was cocktail.
Here is a better (but certainly not ideal) shot of the happy couple. The bodice is kept simple to highlight the frill which starts from a cream satin waistband on one hip and wraps around the skirt to the puddle train which you cant see. Love the satin peep toe shoes,
Here is a rear view - I love the ribbon edging on the veil which sat beautifully with the frills on the skirt. The dress was a Judith Valente design.
I managed to frock up too. My dress is a caranek sil with bust detail and a full bias skirt from the empire line. The bolero was from Jacqui E about 4 years ago. This dress was a rejected 'client' bridesmade dress (we had to make another one) and made mum and I call an end to that 'career'. However I came upon this dress it has had a few outings since. Oh and we can't forget the beautiful flowergirl in her Angelina Baccini dress.

Back at the machine

We are off to a wedding tomorrow so I have been busy making the wedding present. I made them what I call a 'Family Blanket' which is really a large picnic blanket.
As you can see here, beautifully modelled by Spencer, the blanket is two thicknesses of polar fleece loosely quilted together and bound in a cotton floral. While it is reversable the top side is a pale blue minky and the bottom is a charcol grey - to hide the dirt. It is about 1.5m x 2.3m so big enough for our family or just two with room to snuggle. You can see below the hidden pocket which is sewn into the blanket. I keep change in here but it is a great spot for the phone too.
The blanket is wrapped with a bag using D rings as closures and I have two big floral pockets for sunscreen wallet etc. The inside of this bag is denim on which I embroidered Taylor Family - Est 13 March 2011 - Their wedding date. We have one and use it all the time - hope they enjoy it too.

I am not particularly religious but if there is a celebration to be had - for anything really - I'm there. Someone last night reminded me it is Pancake Tuesday today so the boys enjoyed little pancakes for breakfast while I tried (in vain) to explain lent and its origin.

Lets say they enjoyed their pancakes.

Fly By

My beautiful butterfly lunches. Working with a kinder theme, for lunch, and a little distraction from advice and thoughtfulness. I don't know why my reaction is so strong, whether I don't believe it or just don't want to hear it. Not sure, just not happy and want it all to fly by me just like these butterflies did off the plates..................

Old Chook

Off on my hen's night tonight and I really did feel a bit like an old chook. The group was younger than me, and really at a different stage of life. I wasn't really in the mood for a big night and that was ok. We went belly dancing - which was a full on lesson and really quite good fun and then off for a very civilised dinner. I am sure the others kicked on for a while, but I called it early and drove home!

Because I was going out I needed a new dress. This is out of the new burda

which I got on Thursday and on Friday decided I needed this.

I decided on a sheer from the stash. It was orignally for a gifted kaftan (that is one for a gift, not a really talented kaftan!) but alas it is now a dress for me. Probably not the best idea given I was in a belly dancing lesson with a beaded sash tied around my waist! Photo courtesy of Mr Alexander. I also think it would be better in a plain colour but it has had an outing!

Putting my people to work

So I had this idea for a gift for the hens night which is tomorrow. I had seen these on etsy and thought it was a brilliant idea and would be perfect for the bride to be.

I spoke to Mr P about it and he was going to get me some wire. As it turned out, I did the drawing of what I wanted and he was a darling and bent the wire for me.

I was on at the Big squirrel to get me some paint (from the garage as he uses it for work, but it was late before we got it. He then drilled the hole in the hanger (which I had sanded and painted in a white wash glaze - my only contribution!!)

and inserted the wire.

It looked really good but the darling put it in back to front (the curve of the coathanger) and had to do it again and then respray it because of all the effort to get it out!!

It looked really good, and he packaged it up so that I could take it to the party while it was still tacky. What this did mean is that I didn't get a photo of the finished project. I will have to get one with the dress!
